Piton Von Martin on Palas with a guide

Climb the Piton Von Martin or south-west ridge of Palas with PirineoSur. The route features a six-pitch spur in exposed high-mountain terrain.

The outing is for mountaineers with suitable alpine experience. The approach explores the area around Arrémoulit hut and the Palas massif.

Choose one or two days from July to October, for 1 to 2 people, at an intermediate to high level. Read the prerequisites, itinerary and equipment list, then arrange the meeting with PirineoSur in Jaca.

Comfortable sports clothing.

Meet at 12:00 at the PirineoSur office, Calle Antonio Beltrán 1, Jaca, Huesca. Ask when booking if an alternative meeting point is possible. After checking equipment, drive to the start.

Grade: D+ (V). Start at the Cabane de Soques car park (1,400 m), 5 km down the French side of Col du Pourtalet on the D-934, beside an avalanche gully, a closed cabin and a large rock.

An overnight stay at Arrémoulit hut is recommended. Day 1 approach: approximately 3 hours and 990 m of ascent. Day 2 approach: 45 minutes and 270 m of ascent; climbing: 4 hours 45 minutes and 700 m of ascent.

Descend the Ledormeur chimney and return by the approach route to the vehicle.

Completing this activity in one day requires very good fitness. Meet at 04:00 at the PirineoSur office, Calle Antonio Beltrán 1, Jaca, Huesca. Ask when booking if another meeting point is possible. After an equipment check, drive to the start.

Grade: D+ (V). Start at La Sarra car park in Sallent de Gállego. No overnight stay.

Approach via the Arriel lakes to Cuello de Palas: approximately 3 hours and 1,100 m of ascent. Climbing: 4 hours 45 minutes and 700 m of ascent. Descend the Ledormeur chimney and return by the approach route to the vehicle.

For people who have completed a bolted multi-pitch climbing course, or already have some climbing experience, and want to improve their protection and safety systems on routes without fixed gear.

You must be comfortable seconding grade V.
