"MOUNTAIN SKIING ALPS OBERLAN BERNES!!"

This is an advanced ski tour requiring good skiing ability and strong fitness. You should be accustomed to 1,000–1,300 m of ascent, be able to ski in every type of snow, manage uphill/downhill transitions independently and use an ice axe and crampons confidently. If you are unsure, arrange an assessment outing with one of our guides.

The Alpine Haute Route programme follows normal ascent routes with an emphasis on mountain travel and adventure. The technical difficulties are generally moderate, but the itinerary still requires ski-touring experience, familiarity with mountain equipment and the fitness for sustained days.

Groups of 1–6 participants are accompanied by a high mountain guide, who briefs the group each day, helps prepare the following stage and supervises progression in the mountains.

• Personal insurance. You must hold mountaineering federation cover or another insurance policy valid for the activity in Switzerland.

What you need to bring

• Complete ski-touring equipment, including ski-touring boots.
• Ice axe and crampons.
• Avalanche transceiver, shovel and probe.
• Helmet.
• Gore-Tex or equivalent waterproof jacket and trousers.
• Hiking trousers and a 200-weight fleece or equivalent.
• Thermal base layer.
• Gloves and a spare pair.
• Warm hat, sun cap, sunglasses and ski goggles.
• 45–50 litre backpack.
• Sun protection.
• Sleeping bag liner.
• Headtorch.
• Food you enjoy for the practical outings and 1.5 litres of water.

Outline itinerary

Day 0: Welcome and overnight in Grindelwald.

Day 1: Grindelwald – Jungfraujoch (3,571 m) – Targerbert Peak (3,880 m) – Konkordia hut (2,850 m).

Day 2: Konkordia hut – Fieschersattel – Fiescherhorn (4,025 m) – Finsteraarhorn hut (3,048 m).

Day 3: Finsteraarhorn hut – Gross (3,905 m) – Konkordia hut (2,850 m).

Day 4: Konkordia hut – Louwihorn (3,676 m) – Hollandia hut (3,235 m).

Day 5: Hollandia hut – Mittaghorn (3,892 m) – Fafleralp. Transfer and overnight in Grindelwald.

Departure day: Travel home after breakfast in Grindelwald.
