Eiger via Mittellegi, Mönch and Jungfrau with a guide

Explore Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau with PirineoSur on a five-day programme in the Swiss Alps. The itinerary combines Eiger’s Mittellegi ridge, the east ridge of Mönch and Jungfrau via Rottalsattel.

Linking Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau creates several mountaineering days in the Swiss Alps, with ridges, huts and ascents prepared as one programme. The individual format lets the itinerary be discussed around your experience and conditions. Describe previous ascents, crampon use and comfort on rock to assess the programme, its costs and travel flexibility.

  • Season: June to September.
  • Destination: Switzerland.
  • Duration: five days, with a preliminary meeting.
  • Group: one person.
  • General level: high.

Summits and reference elevations

The programme proposes the following objectives. Elevations provide a reference for altitude; conditions and the group’s preparation determine which ascents are possible.

  • Eiger (3,967 m)
  • Mönch (4,107 m)
  • Jungfrau (4,158 m)

Experience and preparation

You need very good fitness, mountain experience and confidence climbing II–III. The page asks for crampon technique on 45° slopes. Read the full prerequisites and describe previous ascents and recent experience; altitude and successive days add to the demands.

Programme and itinerary

After a preliminary meeting at the agreed location, day one travels to Grindelwald and uses the railway towards Mittellegi hut. Day two follows Mittellegi to Eiger and continues to Mönchsjochhütte. Day three climbs Mönch and returns to the hut; day four ascends Jungfrau and descends to Grindelwald. Day five returns to the initial meeting point.

The programme is indicative and is adapted to conditions and the group. Additional information provides for alternative activities if weather prevents an objective and recommends time margins for changes. Request the technical sheet before finalising travel and accommodation.

Equipment and arrangements

Guide services, hut arrangements, shared equipment, requested listed technical equipment and the published local transfers are included. Personal expenses, hut costs and listed lifts are excluded. The page suggests € 750 per person for additional expenses, not as the total price. Review equipment and accident and rescue insurance before travelling.

Ask about dates and plan your outing with PirineoSur.

Experience on PD/AD mountaineering routes, very good fitness, confidence leading or seconding grade II–III rock and crampon technique on slopes of around 45° are required.

Long Alpine days require strong endurance. Altitude, successive days of activity, wind and low temperatures can increase fatigue and difficulty. Read the full programme and ask us if you are unsure about the required level.

Prepare with endurance exercise and mountain walks, using a loaded backpack and the boots and equipment intended for the trip. Break in new boots beforehand. Previous long mountain days, ideally including a 3,000 m summit in the Pyrenees, are useful preparation. You must be comfortable with exposed terrain and heights. An assessment outing with one of our guides can help confirm whether the route suits you.

Level 3 Alpine programme

This progressive programme combines guided mountain routes with technical coaching, helping you improve your skills and make the most of your time in the Alps. Acclimatisation and preparation are built into the itinerary.

Mountain experience, good fitness and familiarity with technical equipment are required. Previous experience on an Alpine 4,000-metre peak provides a useful foundation. Ask us about preparation courses.

Your guide

Participants must have the physical and technical ability to move independently under the guide’s supervision. One high mountain guide accompanies one or two participants, knows the route and gives daily instructions according to conditions and safety considerations.

PirineoSur works with highly qualified professionals with extensive mountain experience and more than 30 years of professional activity in the Alps. They hold the qualifications required in Alpine countries including France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.

Guided mountaineering helps manage the risks and makes it easier to enjoy your trip, but no mountain activity is entirely risk-free.
