Dent Blanche and Aiguille de la Tsa: guided mountaineering in Switzerland

Prepare Dent Blanche with PirineoSur through a programme combining acclimatisation, climbing and travel between huts. Aiguille de la Tsa and Tête Blanche feature before the main ascent by the normal Wandfluegrat route.

This programme prepares for Dent Blanche through a sequence of acclimatisation, climbing and huts rather than concentrating all effort on the main summit. Aiguille de la Tsa and Tête Blanche connect the days before Wandfluegrat. Describe your crampon, rock and altitude experience to assess the itinerary and plan equipment, costs and time flexibility with the guide.

  • Season: July to September.
  • Destination: Switzerland.
  • Duration: five days, with a preliminary meeting.
  • Group: one or two people.
  • General level: very high.

Dent Blanche reaches 4,358 m: altitude adds to the demands of the rock, snow and ridge terrain on this ascent in the Valais.

Experience and preparation

You need very good fitness, mountain experience and confidence climbing II–III. The page asks for crampon technique on 50° slopes. Read the full prerequisites and describe previous ascents and recent experience; altitude and successive days add to the demands.

Programme and itinerary

A preliminary meeting takes place in Chamonix from 18:00. Day one travels to Arolla and ascends to Bertol; day two climbs the Tsa’s east face. Day three crosses Tête Blanche towards Dent Blanche hut, day four ascends Dent Blanche and day five returns to Arolla and Chamonix.

The programme is indicative and is adapted to conditions and the group. Additional information provides for alternative activities if weather prevents an objective and recommends time margins for changes. Request the technical sheet before finalising travel and accommodation.

Equipment and arrangements

Guide services, hut arrangements, shared equipment, requested listed technical equipment and the published local transfers are included. Personal expenses, hut costs and listed lifts are excluded. The page suggests € 500 per person for additional expenses, not as the total price. Review equipment and accident and rescue insurance before travelling.

Experience on PD/AD mountaineering routes, very good fitness, confidence leading or seconding grade II–III rock and crampon technique on slopes of around 50° are required.

Long Alpine days require strong endurance. Altitude, successive days of activity, wind and low temperatures can increase fatigue and difficulty. Read the full programme and ask us if you are unsure about the required level.

Prepare with endurance exercise and mountain walks, using a loaded backpack and the boots and equipment intended for the trip. Break in new boots beforehand. Previous long mountain days, ideally including a 3,000 m summit in the Pyrenees, are useful preparation. You must be comfortable with exposed terrain and heights. An assessment outing with one of our guides can help confirm whether the route suits you.

Level 3 Alpine programme

This progressive programme combines guided mountain routes with technical coaching, helping you improve your skills and make the most of your time in the Alps. Acclimatisation and preparation are built into the itinerary.

Mountain experience, good fitness and familiarity with technical equipment are required. Previous experience on an Alpine 4,000-metre peak provides a useful foundation. Ask us about preparation courses.

Your guide

Participants must have the physical and technical ability to move independently under the guide’s supervision. One high mountain guide accompanies one or two participants, knows the route and gives daily instructions according to conditions and safety considerations.

PirineoSur works with highly qualified professionals with extensive mountain experience and more than 30 years of professional activity in the Alps. They hold the qualifications required in Alpine countries including France, Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland.

Guided mountaineering helps manage the risks and makes it easier to enjoy your trip, but no mountain activity is entirely risk-free.
