What is the Chamonix-Zermatt High Route?
The Chamonix-Zermatt High Route is an alpine route that crosses the heart of the Alps, connecting the two most famous localities of this mountain range. Spanning over 120 kilometers, this 6 to 7 day journey allows you to discover dreamlike landscapes, such as the glaciers of Argentière and Otemma, the spectacular Val d’Hérens, and the imposing presence of the Matterhorn (Cervino).
It is a demanding and technical route, ideal for experienced mountain skiers, combining ascents and descents in high mountain terrains and offering the opportunity to stay in iconic refuges along the way.
Why do the High Route with PirineoSur?
At PirineoSur, we specialize in providing safe, exciting, and personalized high mountain experiences. Doing the High Route with us means relying on:
1. Expert and certified guides: Our guides know every corner of the itinerary and guarantee your safety at all times.
2. Comprehensive planning: We design each stage adapting to your physical and technical level, ensuring a balanced experience between challenge and enjoyment.
This is an advanced ski tour requiring strong skiing skills and good fitness. You should be accustomed to 1,000–1,300 m of daily ascent and be able to ski in all types of snow.
You must be independent when changing between uphill and downhill modes, confident using an ice axe and crampons, and have basic avalanche-transceiver search skills and familiarity with a shovel and probe.
If you are unsure about your ability, arrange an outing with one of our guides so that they can assess whether this route is suitable.
