Explore the Silvretta High Route with mountain skiing alongside PirineoSur: An unforgettable alpine crossing
If you're an enthusiast of ski touring and dream of traversing dreamlike landscapes in the Alps, the Silvretta High Route is your next challenge. At PirineoSur, we take you to discover this emblematic crossing, ideal for mountain skiers who seek to combine the thrill of the sport with the beauty of one of the most spectacular corners of the Alps.
The Silvretta High Route: An alpine crossing to remember
Located between Austria and Switzerland, the Silvretta High Route is famous for its glaciers, gentle slopes and accessible peaks that make it a perfect crossing for both intermediate and advanced skiers. Spanning 5 to 6 days, this trek allows you to explore iconic peaks like Piz Buin (3,312 m), surrounded by alpine landscapes that seem straight out of a fairy tale.
This is an advanced ski tour requiring good skiing ability and strong fitness. You should be accustomed to 1,000–1,300 m of ascent, be able to ski in every type of snow, manage uphill/downhill transitions independently and use an ice axe and crampons confidently. If you are unsure, arrange an assessment outing with one of our guides.
The Alpine Haute Route programme follows normal ascent routes with an emphasis on mountain travel and adventure. The technical difficulties are generally moderate, but the itinerary still requires ski-touring experience, familiarity with mountain equipment and the fitness for sustained days.
Groups of 1–6 participants are accompanied by a high mountain guide, who briefs the group each day, helps prepare the following stage and supervises progression in the mountains.
Peaks featured in the programme include Piz da Val Gronda (2,812 m), Breite Krone (3,079 m), Dreiländerspitze (3,197 m) and Piz Buin (3,312 m).
