Multi-pitch climbing course in the Spanish Pyrenees

Learn to manage longer rock routes on a two-day multi-pitch climbing course near Jaca. Develop rope-team, belaying and descent skills with PirineoSur.

Training covers equipment and rope organisation, building and using belays, communication, route-finding and transitions between pitches. Practise consecutive abseils and techniques for dealing with problems on the wall.

Possible areas include Riglos, Tena, the Aragón Valley and Ansó. The course is offered year-round for 1 to 2 people, subject to conditions. Read the prerequisites, detailed programme and equipment list before booking.

For climbers with some experience of single-pitch sport climbing who want to learn how to climb as a rope team, manage safety systems and progress on multi-pitch routes.

What you need to bring

Comfortable sports clothing.
Bring any climbing equipment you own: quickdraws, harness, climbing shoes, helmet, carabiners and slings for belays.
15–30 litre backpack, no larger.
Sun protection.
Food you enjoy for the practical outings and 1.5 litres of water.

Course objectives

Develop the skills to climb bolted multi-pitch routes independently, from grade IV to 6a. Learning is practical and enjoyable. After the course, we suggest routes on which you can consolidate your skills and share your experience with us.

Course content

Anchors, knots, equipment and climbing gear. Building, changing over at and assessing trad, mixed and fixed belay stations. Climbing as a rope team. Belaying the leader and second, and rope safety systems. Simul-climbing and protection systems on easy terrain. Planning approaches, climbs and descents. Multi-stage abseil strategies. Climbing grades and route descriptions.
