Easy family via ferrata in the Pyrenees

Try a level 1 via ferrata with children in the Huesca Pyrenees. Discover an equipped rock route with cables, rungs and, depending on the route, bridges.

Your guide explains equipment use and helps select a route suited to participants’ ages, heights and experience. This is an introductory way to explore vertical terrain as a family.

The one-day outing is offered year-round for 2 to 6 people. Check the children’s requirements and included services. Meet at the PirineoSur office or the chosen via ferrata as arranged.

A low to moderate level of fitness is needed. No previous experience is required, but you must be comfortable with heights.

This introduction to via ferrata is suitable for children, families and school groups. It combines metal ladders, climbing and guided progression in the Pyrenees, with views of the Tena Valley or the Sorrosal waterfall, depending on the route.

Included

  • Qualified high mountain or canyoning guide.
  • Initial assistance insurance.
  • Shared equipment: ropes and first-aid kit.
  • Personal equipment: helmet, harness and via ferrata energy absorbers.
  • Photos of the activity.

Not included

  • Transport; contact us for details.

What to bring

  • Comfortable sports clothing for mountain walking.
  • A bag to leave in the car with spare clothes in case yours get wet, a water bottle and food.
  • Footwear: hiking shoes or hiking boots.
  • If you wear glasses or contact lenses, bring a suitable way to prevent losing them during the activity.
  • Important items: sun cap, sunscreen and a bottle of water.

A via ferrata is a climbing route equipped with metal rungs and other fixed aids. Participants wear a harness, helmet and energy-absorbing via ferrata lanyard, clipping onto the fixed safety cable along the route.

The outing starts with the walk from the vehicle to the foot of the route. We put on our equipment and climb using the fixed aids, gaining height and increasingly open views. After reaching the top, we descend on a walking path.

Outline programme

We begin by distributing the equipment and driving in participants’ own vehicles to the via ferrata. It is also possible to meet directly at the start. After putting on harnesses and helmets, we walk to the foot of the wall, where the guide gives the final safety and progression briefing.

The via ferrata can take place in the morning or afternoon, depending on weather and how busy the route is. It is particularly suitable for combining with canyoning.

Allow half a day for the activity. Afterwards, you can stay to swim in the river or continue with other activities included in your chosen programme.
