Your first ski touring experience in the Spanish Pyrenees

Ski Touring Taster — First Experience — DISCOVERY · HALF DAY

Try ski touring with PirineoSur on a half-day introduction around Astún or Candanchú, near Jaca. Get to know the equipment and practise the basic movements on a straightforward outing before deciding whether to take your training further.

No previous ski touring experience is needed. You should already be able to descend blue pistes using basic parallel turns.

What will you try?

  • Fitting and removing climbing skins, handling touring bindings and adjusting your equipment.
  • Basic uphill steps, gradual changes of direction and kick turns.
  • Carrying skis on a backpack.
  • Avalanche transceiver start-of-outing checks and an introductory transceiver exercise.
  • Observing snow quality, signs of snow accumulation and terrain when choosing how the group should travel.
  • Basic downhill position and technique, with the descent on piste depending on your level.

A small-group introduction

The session starts with a meeting and equipment check, followed by preparation, travel to the practice area and a short outing. The instructor provides corrections and feedback as you try the techniques.

Read the practical programme and equipment list below, then contact PirineoSur to discuss your skiing level and dates.

Who is this taster for?

Alpine skiers who would like to find out what ski touring involves through an introductory outing and straightforward ascents in the Pyrenees.

No previous ski touring experience is required. You must be able to descend blue pistes using basic parallel turns.

If your skiing is not yet at that level, we can offer downhill technique lessons on piste. The instructor can then assess whether you are ready to try ski touring.

If you are unsure about your ability, call us or contact PirineoSur for help choosing the right activity.
