Two-day snowshoe journey around Midi d’Ossau with a night at Pombie

This PirineoSur trip combines two snowshoeing days around Midi d’Ossau with an overnight winter hut experience. Access is organised through the Portalet area and the night is spent in the unstaffed part of Pombie hut. The activity has a moderate level and accepts groups of up to 8 people during winter. It differs from a short introductory walk: you must prepare a backpack and overnight mountain equipment.

Experience and preparation required

The published requirements do not demand previous experience. Nevertheless, discuss your walking habits and readiness for two consecutive days carrying a backpack. The guide can help assess suitability and equipment. Up to 8 people; private departures follow the published booking options. Ask about group formation.

Itinerary and day-to-day arrangements

The indicative programme starts with a 09:00 meeting and travel to the route’s starting point. Day one heads towards the Peyreget peak area before continuing to Pombie for the night. Day two proposes travel around the Midi via Col de Souzon and a return through the valle de la Neu. The final passes and route depend on snow, weather and the group.

The overnight stay is in an unstaffed shelter, with simpler arrangements than a serviced accommodation. A stove is included for meal preparation, but participants must coordinate their food with the guide. The bivouac or igloo mentioned in the additional information is a possibility to discuss rather than a guaranteed element of the package.

Arrangements and equipment

The listed package includes two guiding days, the unstaffed hut night, a stove and the stated technical and safety equipment. Travel to the meeting point and food are excluded. Snowshoes and poles can be provided. Bring a sleeping bag, overnight kit, winter clothing, spares, headtorch, a 45–50-litre backpack and water or a flask. Check the full list and agree what you will bring and what can be supplied before booking.
