Tour of Midi d’Ossau: a three-day trek via Ayous and Pombie huts

Walk around Midi d’Ossau with PirineoSur on a circular trek from Bious-Artigues. Three days via Ayous and Pombie huts explore lakes and passes and views of the massif from different sides.

This three-day circular route offers a guided Pyrenees trek around Midi d’Ossau through huts and lakes. Linking Ayous and Pombie provides changing scenery without returning to the start each afternoon. Prepare for the ascents and final descent and discuss whether you want to consider optional summits. Agree on the route, nights and equipment before arranging travel to Bious-Artigues.

  • Season: mid-June to late September.

This three-day trek aims to reach a summit each day. The first two days involve more than 1,000 m of ascent, and the final day more than 1,000 m of descent. Regular mountain walking and a good level of fitness are required.

Summits are optional, depending on the group’s wishes, fatigue and timing. They do not present major technical difficulties, and rock-climbing skills are not required.

The main demands are accumulated ascent and descent, especially on the way down, and fatigue over successive days. Wind and low temperatures may add to the challenge. Read the full programme and contact us if you are unsure about your level.

Prepare with endurance exercise and mountain walks using a loaded backpack, the boots and the equipment you will take on the trip. Break in new boots beforehand. Tell us before the activity about any heart condition or other relevant health issue so that the guide can take it into account.
