Level 3 via ferrata in the Pyrenees

Tackle more demanding via ferratas in the Huesca Pyrenees with a PirineoSur guide. This level 3 outing is for fit participants with previous experience who want more vertical, exposed or technical sections.

Foradada de Toscar, Croqueta de Obarra and La Zapatilla are among the options. Your guide helps select a route for your experience and the conditions, and explains equipment use and progression.

The one-day activity is offered year-round, subject to conditions, for 2 to 6 people. Meet at the PirineoSur office or the chosen route as arranged. Read the prerequisites and equipment list before booking.

Routes and topos

A low to moderate level of fitness is required. Previous experience is essential: you must have completed a level 2 via ferrata and be comfortable with heights.

This outing is the next step in via ferrata, combining metal ladders, climbing and controlled progression through mountain scenery in the heart of the Pyrenees.

What to bring

  • Comfortable sports clothing for mountain walking.
  • A bag to leave in the car with spare clothes in case yours get wet, a water bottle and food.
  • Footwear: hiking shoes or hiking boots.
  • If you wear glasses or contact lenses, bring a suitable way to prevent losing them during the activity.
  • Important items: sun cap, sunscreen and a bottle of water.

Included

  • Qualified high mountain or canyoning guide.
  • Initial assistance insurance.
  • Shared equipment: ropes and first-aid kit.
  • Personal equipment: helmet, harness and via ferrata energy absorbers.
  • Photos of the activity.

Not included

  • Transport; contact us for details.

A via ferrata is a climbing route equipped with metal rungs and other fixed aids. Participants wear a harness, helmet and energy-absorbing via ferrata lanyard, clipping onto the fixed safety cable along the route.

The outing starts with the walk from the vehicle to the foot of the route. We put on our equipment and climb using the fixed aids, gaining height and increasingly open views. After reaching the top, we descend on a walking path.

Outline programme

We begin by distributing the equipment and driving in participants’ own vehicles to the via ferrata. It is also possible to meet directly at the start. After putting on harnesses and helmets, we walk to the foot of the wall, where the guide gives the final safety and progression briefing.

The via ferrata can take place in the morning or afternoon, depending on weather and how busy the route is. It is particularly suitable for combining with canyoning.

Allow half a day for the activity. Afterwards, you can stay to swim in the river or continue with other activities included in your chosen programme.
